Sant Shri Asaram Ji Bapu scandal, CJM to police: Probe slapping of cameraman by Asaram Babu

Ghaziabad: The Chief Judicial Magistrate court here Wednesday asked police to investigate the charges leveled on Asaram Bapu by a TV channel cameraman, who was allegedly slapped by the religious guru on September 2.

Ajay Bir Singh -counsel of the petitioner - said Asaram slapped Sachin Kumar when he failed to follow the religious leader's instruction to capture in camera the congregation during a Samagam (meeting) in Ghaziabad.

On the complaint made by the cameraperson, Kavi Nagar police of the district had registered an FIR under section 323 of IPC (voluntarily causing hurt) against the religious guru.

The police later filed a final report in the matter and did not proceed further with the case, Singh claimed.

The CJM court on the application of the petitioner asked Kavi Nagar police to investigate the matter and register a case again.

HC rejects Narayan Sai’s bail plea

In an important judgement, the Madhya Pradesh High Court (Indore bench) here on Friday rejected a transit bail petition of Narayan Sai, the son of spiritual guru Asaram Bapu in connection with the deaths of two students of a school run by the Asaram Bapu Trust in Ahmedabad.Fearing his arrest by the Gujarat police in connection with the above-mentioned case, Narayan Sai had filed a transit bail petition in the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on August 13 this monthafter a 20-member strong team of the Gujarat CID went to Asaram Bapu’s Ashram in Ahmedabad to search him. The CID team had apparently went to the Ashram to probe whether the reports on occult practices being carried out at the premises were correct or not.The Madhya Pradesh High Court taking cognizance of his petition, reserved its judgement and served a notice on the Gujarat police asking it to give a reply whether any criminal case had been registered against Narayan Sai in connection with the above-mentioned case. Sai for the past sometime had been on the `run’ for various `controversies’ surrounding him and his spiritual father Asaram Bapu after report of deaths of two Asaram Ashram’s inmates in Ahmedabad and other charges leveled against the father-son duo.Subsequent to the High Court order, Gujarat police filed its reply before the apex court maintaining that so far they had not registered any criminal case against Sai and as such investigation against him was still continuing.
Following reply of Gujarat police, the single bench court of justice W A Shah of the Madhya Pradesh High Court Indore bench here on Friday rejected the transit bail petition of Narayan Sai on the plea that he did not face any threat of his being arrested by Gujarat police. On the occasion, Sai along with his counsel, C K Saxena was also present.

The CID had sent summons to Narayan Sai in Ahmedabad following frequent reports appearing in local dailies alleging the later’s involvement in tantrik (occult) activities, though there had been no evidence connecting him to the deaths. In its summons, the CID had given two days time to Sai directing him to report before the CID for questioning in connection with the mystery deaths of two students of Asaram Gurukul. However, Sai did not turn up before the CID.

Since then, the CID had been a hunt to trace him and record his version. It was only recently that a team of CID officials from Ahmedabad visited Indore and recorded the statement of Narayan Sai, claimed his counsel C K Saxena.
